PASTOR TUNDE BAKARE CALLS FOR PROBE OF OSTENTATIOUS CLERGY

Story from: NIGERIAN TRIBUNE

Pastor Tunde Bakare is well known in Nigeria for his outspokenness and no-holds-barred approach to issues of religion and government.
There have apparently been calls from various quaters for religious organizations to be made to pay tax. Pastor Bakare in his arguement has pointed out the fact that in most other countries, religious and charitable organizations are exempted from taxation. He has however called for men of the cloth who live a flamboyant and ostentatious lifestyle to be investigated, and if found guilty of any impropriety, to be brought to book.

I'm sure he would have stepped on many toes with that statement but maybe he's right. Maybe religious organizations should open up to public scrutiny simply to display transparency and dispel the rumours and worries among a significant proportion of Nigerians who feel that certain men of God are misappropriating church funds to feather their own nests. My two cents.
