Like I've said before, I watch a lot of Christian television. Well today a preacher came on to promote his book. I can't remember the exact title but it was something about Christian Billionaires, how to unlock your potential and maximize your income.
The book looked quite impressive, thick, hard-back, substantial, and I thought to myself, it must have taken a lot of effort to write.
I had company and we both listened with interest as his words were quite engaging. The next thing we heard was, "this book can be yours for a minimum 'seed' of £199!'. That is approximately 50,000k or $300! We looked at each other in astonishment and immediately burst into laughter! I remarked that if enough people were to buy this book, that man would be well on his way to becoming a billionaire himself!
I hope I'm not being too cynical and I know there are rare books that sell for millions of dollars in the West because they're collectors items, but what is the guarantee that after investing that much in a book you'll be getting value for your money? Besides we don't know anything about this man's background or indeed whether he's been able to successfully put the principles he's expounding into action.
Suffice it to say that I lost interest from that point on!
I would lose interest too. Can you remember his name?
ReplyDeleteLol! No, he's not one of the well-known ones.

DeleteI v observed that this is very common wt preachers that have TV ministries. But I don't think I v heard any asking for this kind of amount. The book must really be something!
ReplyDeleteYes it's common. They use it to raise money for their ministries instead of outrightly soliciting for money, which I guess is fine, as long as they really have somethhing to pass across.
DeleteThis one was way over-the-top!
